The Foz do Iguaçu/Cataratas International Airport is the main tourist entrance gate in the city of Foz do Iguaçu that has in tourism its main industry. Its geographical location naturally makes it the Brazilian gate of the Mercosul. It will be also the mandatory entrance/exit gate for the central bio-oceanic corridor in the future.
Thus, the airport is a core part for the city’s development, the airport allows for connecting the city to several destinations inside Brazil and abroad. It works also as integration tool, due to the large distance between Foz do Iguaçu and the country’s major urban center.
The airport is located at km 16.5 of BR 469 highway – Cataratas’ Highway, 13 Km from downtown, 12 Km from the Iguaçu Falls, 10 Km of the Tancredo Neves Bridge (Argentina), 20 Km from the Friendship Bridge (Paraguay), 30 Km from Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant. The closeness to Foz do Iguaçu Hydroelectric Plant and of the Argentine town of Puerto Iguazu, which offers refined gastronomy, casinos, in addition of Paraguayan trade, makes the tourism industry the main revenues source for the city. The city receives, every year, thousands of tourists from the most diverse regions of the planet.
The Airport operates 24 hours, average of 9 regular daily flights with an average of 600,000 passengers /year (last five years), and it has flights with destination to Brazil’s main points, counting with a constructed area of 21,475 m², dimensioned to assist 1,500,000 passengers /year.
