Uberlandia Airport located in one of Minas’ major cities is the 3rd largest in the state and it has capacity to serve 600 thousand passenger annually. It serves a wealthy region where industry, agriculture and livestock, trade, and service sectors standout. The region also counts on many universities and it has stood as a major Brazilian destination for business tourism. The airport has followed the growth of region’s aviation and industrial pole. The airport operates with modern air-conditioning system in the boarding/disembarkation lounge, and it adapted for PCN’s (people with special needs) accessibility. During the same period, aircrafts ground area paving and runway have been rehabilitated, which allows for large aircrafts operation, such as Air Bus 320 e B737-800, bearing in mind that PCN assistance went from 27 to 43. Aircrafts and passengers traffic presented expressive growth in previous years. In 2004, the airport recorded an increase of over 150% in number of passengers, reaching the mark of 53,335 boarding/disembarkation operations in July 2005, which consolidated it as the major airport in the interior of Minas Gerais stated, and it ranks in 25th position in terms of passengers traffic. It ranked the 29th position in terms of revenue and 27th in relation to passengers and aircrafts traffic in 2008 in Brazil. A technical feasibility study was completed still in 2008 for installing a Cargo Logistics Terminal, an issue recorded through a Technical Cooperation Terms signed between Infraero and the Municipality of Uberlandia, in which the Municipality offers as counterpart, among many other, donation a land plot for constructing the Cargo Logistics Terminal (TECA), in addition to the new Passenger Terminal. The ownership document for Area 01 – Denominated as Plot 01-E has been transferred to Infraero, and the Municipality is taking reasonable measures in order to transfer Area 02 to Federal Government, denominated Plot 01-F, and there is the possibility for donation of a third area.
